Q. How'd you get into Harry Potter?

It was the last week of February, 2001. I had to travel out of state to a city I'd never been before for a week-long class. I was staying in a hotel, and knew nothing about the area. So on the day I drove up, I decided I should get a book in case I was intimidated by the town I ended up in, and couldn't find a movie theatre. As I stopped by the art supply store to pick up a drawing pad [I never travel without one], I saw that Crown Books was going out of business. I took this as a sign and stepped inside.

To my dismay, most of the books I would've been looking for were sold out. So I set to aimlessly wandering the store to see what else they might have. I found Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone [in hardcover, no less!] on sale. I made sure that was the first book, and bought it.

That evening, with a cup of tea, I settled down in the hotel room to see what the big deal was about these books. Well, I found out. I devoured half the book that night and finished the rest the next day. That evening I was tooling around unfamiliar Maryland trying to find a bookstore. I was about to give up when I found a BORDERS books. I walked in, purchased the other three books in hardcover on the spot, and the rest is history.

I'm hooked, I'm a fan. And once I like something that much, I usually end up drawing about it. Such is the case here. I hope you enjoy my artworks. And yes, I do have Harry Potter fanfiction as well. Until I archive it here at ISN, you can find it here at the Yahoo Harry Potter Fanfiction Group.

WARNING! I'd suggest reading all four Harry Potter books before perusing my artwork as some of it does reveal major stuff from the books!

Most of this art is pencils only because coloring them via computer takes a very, very long time even though the results are really nice. I haven't done any with marker yet, though I may this summer.

Book I: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's[Sorcerer's] Stone

The drawings are listed in as close as I can get to their chronological order with regard to the story.

The Wild Ride at Gringotts: Harry, Hagrid and Griphook in the wild mining car hurtling towards the subterranean vaults at Gringotts wizards bank. This was drawn in July of 2001, for the monthly Harry Potter art contest at Astronomy Domine, Kellilla's Harry Potter site. Full Colour.

Harry and the Sorting Hat: The hat has dropped down over Harry's eyes, and poor Harry is terribly nervous. Pencils.

Book II: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Dear Diary: Ginny Weasley musing over her diary. Pencils.

Book III: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Boo!: Draco Malfoy tries to be scary done up as a Dementor.

The Sly Boys: Severus Snape considers who to put the "injured" Draco Malfoy with for Potions class.

"I Solemnly Swear I am up to No Good!": Harry and the Marauders' Map.

The Man from the Photo: Sirius smiles for the first time, with Harry at his side, beneath the Whomping Willow. Full Colour. Yes, I know Prisoner is spelled wrong. I was having a spelling fluke day.

Two Innocent Lives: Albus Dumbledore counsels Harry and Hermione that they could save two innocent lives.

Book IV: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Shot Down: Harry gets up his nerve to ask Cho Chang for a date.

What You'll Miss The Most: Harry in the lake, diving for the 2nd task. Pencils.

Miscellaneous Harry Potter Art

Charlie: Charlie Weasley and a dragon. Pencils.

Treasure Hunter: Bill Weasley, in an Indiana Jones motif. The notion struck me when I was wondering what a wizard treasure hunter wore.

Summer Lounging: Hermione Granger, with Crookshanks and her prisoner in the jar, lounging with a book. This hasn't actually happened in the series, but I got the mental image of it happening immediately after Book 4, and it wouldn't go away until I drew it.
